Now a days it has become hotcake in the education field in India whether the foreign universities should be given permission to establish and run their branches in India or not after the "Foreign University Education bill " has been passed by Cabinet. In my views it is right decision by Indian govt.
We claim that we also have World class institution like JNU, IIM and IIT. But if we observe the research work done by this institution, it is either null or very few. Even in today's scenario also, most of the students pursue their research work abroad in foreign universities because of the lack of infrastructure and facilities here in Indian universities. According to Chetan Bhagat, who is a writer as well as IIT'ian confess in his novel "Five Point Someone" that in premier institution like IIT, Students are forced to Mug up the topics rather to understand the fact and score higher GPA rather than to involve them doing experiment and research work. Then how can we claim that we have world class institution. So, it's good sign if Best foreign universities will open their branches here in India, Students will get chance to do the research work and will able to prove that...yes, we are also best in the world in terms of Knowledge.
Recently BBC had organised one Live programme at JNU Campus "Bol India Bol". Most of the JNU students, Professors and Radio listeners participated in that programme. One of the student alleged that "When the foreign countries don't allow us to open our universities branches in their country, then why should we allow them to do this." Personally i disagree with his views. At first, we have to raise our standard in such a position that they should request us to open our universities branches in their countries, isn't it? One of the JNU Professor raised the issue of reservation for SC/ST students. Again it is also baseless issue in today's scenario. How long will we cry for the reservation in academic institutions specially, when we are taught same lesson in the classes together in schools and colleges, then why One particular class of the society should have reservation??? Admission should be taken in colleges absolutely based on the talent of the students, not on the base of caste, race or groups.
It's true that Foreign universities see the big market here at Indian subcontinent, so their motto is do business here and make money. Again, there is also fear that only rich students will able to pursue their studies in such universities because of the high fee structure, so it will again create a class based society in long term. But if Indian govt. will control the Fee Structure, Syllabus and admission process, then there is no harm to welcome them here at India.
Most of the student's dream will be fulfilled, those who want to pursue their higher studies in foreign universities. There will two advantages for them. First, they can earn the foreign degree here in India only. Second, they can avoid racial abuses, which is happening frequently now a days in countries like Australia, USA etc.
So, let's welcome the latest move my HRD ministry of India. Of course when we start doing something, there will be always some pros and cons. but all the issues can be solved one by one. Last but not the least, Indian students welfare should be given first priority while taking any final decision on this issue, so that maximum number of students from all sections of the society will get chance to fulfill their dream.
