Proposal for the use of Air Power in Naxal affected areas Justified or not???

Recently these days the violence by Maoist have increased by leaps and bound in naxal affected areas. Killing of 76 CRPF personnel in Dantewara district of Chhatishgarh and again killing of 30 Civilians in a bus bomb blast is a clear example of it. Along with that they are continuing to harm Govt. property and disrupt civil life in Bihar and Jharkhand as well.

Bihar, Jharkhand, Orrisa, Andhra Pradesh and Chhatishgarh has become hotbeds for the Maoist. They are running parallel govt. in their areas and govt. authorities don't have any influence on them. Now the question arises, why the situation has reached up to this extent?


if we look back the reason behind this, the govt policies is sole responsible for it. In the naxal affected areas, still there are lack of basic infrastructure. The tribals are still very far away from the civilized life, living with the limited resources. No govt. welfare schemes are running in the affected areas.The Govt in concerned states are more concerned with promoting corporate interest in tribal areas than in enforcing their rights and entitlements.


In my opinion, Military operation is not the solution of this problem. In a meeting with Home Minister P Chidambaram, Chhatishgarh chief minister Raman Singh and even CRPF has also requested to use of Air Force in naxal affected areas, but this plan will not be fruitful . Let me explain you why??


Air Force has been given role to protect our air space from enemy attack as well as to help civilians during national calamities by providing logistic support and rescue operation. Air Force is using the weapon of mass destruction and using these weapons in our territory will kill innocent people i.e tribals along with naxalites too. So, finally it will strengthen the naxalism. So, Air Strike in naxal affected areas are not justified in my views.


Andhra Predesh had really done very good job during Mr. Reddy regime. He tried to set up Govt institution in affected areas apart from that made roads, started many welfare schemes, improved the intelligence source as well as planned for  the adequate training for police forces. The result is there in front of everyone. The casualties has been reduced to minimum in those areas by Naxals.


Instead of this, Government should try and take following steps to neutralize this problem :

• Extensive Ground Training for Police Forces ( Especially to fight effectively in Jungles/dense forest).
• Enhance the Intelligence Input so that appropriate actions can be taken to handle the worst situation in time.
• Provides basic needs of the people staying in affected areas i.e Road, Schools, Colleges, Employment etc. I mean they should brought up to join the main stream of life.
• Give tribals a bigger role in the management of forest and forest resources.
• Ensuring active participation of tribals in development process.
• Implementation of 'Panchayti Raj' system in affected areas.
• Govt should also try to find out from where these organisations get funds and arms  and ammunition and try to block it.

If these steps will be taken honestly, no doubt this left-wing extremism can be contained easily in near future.....!! Let's hope for the best.
